NORTH SEYMOUR ISLAND
AM: Baltra airport. Reception at airport. Transfer IN. Welcome on board NEMO III Catamaran. Welcome and lunch.
PM: NORTH SEYMOUR ISLAND
Located slightly to the north of the island of Baltra, North Seymour is a low, flat island, formed as a result of the uplift caused by magma build up below. It is covered with low, bushy vegetation and contains the largest colony of magnificent Frigate birds in the Galapagos; Land Iguanas are common here too. There is also a population of Blue-Footed Boobies that perform an amusing courtship dance when nesting conditions are right, making this one of the highlights of the visit.
SAN CRISTOBAL ISLAND: LOBOS ISLAND - KICKER ROCK & BRUJO HILL
AM: LOBOS ISLAND - KICKER ROCK
Lobos Island: Located a half hour boat ride northeast of Puerto Baquerizo. As its name implies this is a large amount of sea lions with which one can swin and snorkel. Can also be seen nesting colonies of birds such as blue-footed boobies, masked and frigates.
Kicker Rock: Embark on a snorkeling adventure at Kicker Rock, one of the most stunning landmarks in the Galápagos Islands that’s home to an incredibly diverse range of marine life that inhabits the nutrient-rich water. Explore the rock which rises 150m (492 ft) above the ocean's surface, and is divided into two parts by a narrow channel navigable by small vessels. See an array of sharks and fish that are drawn to the rock and provide for an exhilarating unique snorkeling experience.
PM: BRUJO HILL
Located north of Puerto Baquerizo Moreno is known for being part of the volcanic zone where visitors may watch small cones located in the interior. There is abundant vegetation but you can find two types of “lechoso”. There is a beautiful coral sand beach which is visited by many sea birds, sea lions and marine iguanas. The salt water pools behind the sand dunes were once used by fishermen as a salt mine.
ESPAÑOLA ISLAND: GARDNER BAY & SUAREZ POINT
AM: GARDNER BAY
Located on the north-eastern coast of Hood, Gardner Bay provides an excellent beach for relaxing, swimming, snorkeling, kayaking, and the opportunity to observe sea lions. Here we can also observe sharks in the crystal clear ocean waters.
PM: SUAREZ POINT
This rocky land spot sustains one of the most impressive and varied colonies of sea birds in the Galapagos. Along its southern shore, high cliffs rise up from the sea affording the visitor spectacular views of soaring birds and of the blow whole where water spouts up to 50-75 feet into the air according to the intensity of the surf.
FLOREANA ISLAND: CORMORANT POINT - CHAMPION ISLET & POST OFFICE BAY
AM: CORMORANT POINT - CHAMPION ISLET
Cormorant Point: This site offers probably the best Flamingo lagoon in the Galapagos; it is also one of the largest in the islands. It’s now between two tuff lava cones that give the area a special atmosphere. There are various species of shorebirds to observe besides flamingos; the most frequent are common stilts, white-checked pintail ducks and other migratory birds. It is very interesting to see the two distinct beaches: “The Green Beach” (due to its high percentage of olivine crystals in the sand) and the “Flour Sand Beach” which is made up of coral.
Champion Islet: Around mid morning we sail for 25 minutes do a dinghy ride and snorkel at Champion Islet. This small piece of land is one of two places were the Floreana mocking bird survives after its extinction on the big Island. While trying to find the rare bird from our dinghies, we will enjoy a beautiful landscape full of fairy tale cactus and terracotta rock formations. Soon sea lions will invite us to enjoy the water. The snorkeling around the island is extraordinary, lots of fish, rays, sharks and the playfulness of the Galapagos sea lions.
PM: POST OFFICE BAY
Historically, this site is the location of a wooden barrel placed here in the 18th century by the crew of a whaling ship. Marines as well as tourist used it as a post office. The idea is to carry letters or postcards to their destination by hand. Apart from being the Post Office Barrel, this site was the landing area for some of the first colonists.
ISLA SANTA CRUZ: HIGHLANDS
AM: HIGHLANDS
Head to Santa Cruz’s verdant highlands and the El Chato Reserve, a perfect place to see giant tortoises in their natural environment. Explore the reserve’s lagoon and lava tunnels, keeping an eye out for owls that often roost in the tunnels’ entrances.
After this morning excursion you will be taken to the airport for your flight to the mainland.
